ABOUT

MARTHA COTES

Born in Barranquilla, a city in the north coast of Colombia. Since childhood he had a penchant for art, pencil drawings prepared in 1979 won an intercollegiate contest drawing in the city of Bogotá.
In 1980 at the Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Switzerland deepened his studies of art history and to share with different cultures, it opens up a universe of like trying to cover concerns and unify the world through his painting.
To speak of Martha Cotes, you have to understand the inside strength of her spirit, her desire to conquer the chromatic world from the prespective of a tropical cultural woman without of precedence of others. Feeling her own impulsive rigth to search deep and enter inside of what we call art. Her art pieces reflect a geometric plane of color, where she clearly expresses nature with big pastures and trees with movement and dark green tones and ligths that contrast softly with rigidity and frailty in her art.
This is the original manner she expresses space and form, a characteristic renovative Modern style, synthesizing with this a personal expresion of her spirit. She is a passionate romantic, she is irreparably lost whitin color and surounded with the most radical elements of her art.
She respects and admires the pictorial creation of her contemporaries althrough in the margin of the critics of modern society she remembers with nostalgic vehemence Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Cezanne, Renoir and the impressionist world that makes us live.
Martha has shown us today the effect of life in her paintings, contrast with firmness, the candescent red with the broshstroke of green and blue and obliging us to accept the figure that only she can conceive, renunciating the schematic framework of perspective.
This is how we remember her art, this is how she shows her paintings, free of rigid Feelings, with pure colors with penetrating ligth she leaves us seeing the trip changing the perpetual ethereal inside your own visual interpretation.
